Christ United Methodist ChurchOn a hot day in June 1988, a little church stepped out in faith and made a giant leap. With an eye toward the future, the members of North Fulton United Methodist Church sold their building, changed their name, and moved to a beautiful ten-acre farm on the corner of Bowen and Woodstock Roads. At forty families strong and with a small farmhouse for its sanctuary, Christ United Methodist Church was born.

Within four years the farmhouse was overflowing. Christ UMC knocked down walls and built structures to accommodate its burgeoning congregation, but people kept coming. In January of 1997, the two hundred plus members of Christ UMC broke ground on a brand new sanctuary. Their vision was faith-centered and simple: to create a place of peace and fellowship where members and visitors could experience the centering love of Jesus Christ within a warm, caring church family.

During construction, the congregation gathered in a yellow-and-white striped tent it dubbed “the tabernacle in the wilderness.” Members eagerly awaited completion of the new facility, but knew the heart of the church wasn’t the building—the heart of Christ UMC was its members and the community of nurturing, love, and acceptance it offers to all who want to grow closer to God. This loving spirit continues today in all of Christ UMC’s worship and programming.

Christ United Methodist has been blessed with the leadership of several dynamic pastors since its farm house days, and continues to grow under the energetic leadership of the recently-appointed Reverend Nancy Johnson. In 2011 we began our Community Garden Outreach to benefit area food pantries and the Christ UMC community. In the spring of 2012 we consecrated a new church playground for the area’s children. Our church family is multi-racial, multi-generational, and multi-gifted. Our members come from all over the north metro area and include young families, singles, retirees and current professionals. Christ United Methodist warmly welcomes you, wherever you are on your journey of faith.
